DALLAS – Jake Paul was taken aback by Nate Diaz’s demeanor during their first news conference and faceoff on Tuesday.
Despite the online banter leading up to their August 5 eight-round boxing match, Diaz remained calm and playful, which surprised Paul.
“He was calm and respectful,” Paul told MMA Junkie and other reporters following the event at American Airlines Center. “I don’t know. It was interesting. I wanted to get him riled up because he talked that sh*t on social media and said everything on interviews, but today when we were face to face, he acted like a b*tch.”
Paul proceeded to express confusion at Diaz's behavior. The UFC fighter has a history of being aggressive towards his opponents in and out of the cage, so it came as a surprise when he acted kinder than expected during the latest buildup to their fight. “He was just hella nice. It doesn’t make any sense. I don’t know. He was talking all that sh*t online, talking sh*t on Twitter, and then he just didn’t really say anything,” Paul said.
Paul was unsure why Diaz behaved the way he did, however, he doesn't believe it was an intentional mental warfare tactic from the MMA star. “I don’t think he’s that smart, brother,” Paul said.
